Simple Lacy Scarf Pattern

By | Crochet Pattern | No Comments

For the last couple of days Tennessee has been covered by rain clouds and gray skies. I wanted to get some work done in the yard, but those plans were out! I needed to do something that would bring a little brightness into my life, so I decided to make a quick summer scarf!

To make this scarf, you start with a chain of 30. All you need to know how to do are chain stitches and slip stitches! It truly could not be simpler! I found the tutorial for it HERE at Classy Crochet. It includes full picture tutorials so you can be sure you are getting it right!

I used Lion Brand Homespun to make my scarf. Normally I think of Homespun as a more “wintry” yarn since it it so thick and luxurious. However, due the lacy nature of this scarf, you don’t notice the thickness so much as you feel the velvety softness. In this Ambrosia colorway it looks awesome. As you wrap it around two or three times it forms a natural color change that you could wear with all sorts of outfits!

Wrapping this scarf in different ways allows you to feature different colors! Maybe you want more pink one day and more purple the next! The color changes in this yarn are perfect for that!

I hope you’ve enjoyed this simple summer scarf! I’ve already started a second one in shades of blue using Lion Brand Homespun in Waterfall.

I’d love to see any summer scarves you have made! Or any patterns you have to share! Join us in the Couch Surfer Crocheters Facebook group or share with me on Instagram!

Crochet Along Pictures

By | Crochet Along | No Comments

Hello everyone! I am so thrilled by the success of the Mixed Stitch Blanket Crochet Along! We are currently through Week 3. Week 4 will go live on Monday, May 22nd.

Today I just wanted to do a quick post to share some of the pictures that have been shared in the Couch Surfer Crocheters Facebook group! If you haven’t already, join us over there! We have such an awesome group of talented crocheters!

Theresa shared her two (!) versions of the blanket:

I just love the way she left the lengths of fringe on that multicolored blanket!

Babsie shared her piece so far. Doesn’t it look awesome with all those colors?

Kathy shared her progress. She said she wasn’t enjoying the puff stitches so she repeated rows from Week 1 and Week 2. I love her creativity!

Tina switched it up and is using a heavier weight of yarn to make a thicker blanket!

Margaret is using Vanna’s Choice yarns for her blanket. I love those colors together!

I also decided to start a second blanket. For this one, I am using Caron Cakes in Pistachio and I am loving the color changes without having to weave in a ton of loose ends!

I hope these photos have inspired you! If you’d like to share your work so far, join us on Facebook or tag me on Instagram @couchsurfercrochet. See you again on Monday!

Corner to Corner (c2c) Pillow Cover Pattern

By | Crochet Pattern | No Comments

Hello again friends! I hope you are having fun doing the Mixed Stitch Blanket Crochet Along! The next section (Week 4) will be available Monday, May 22nd!

Today I want to share with you a very versatile crochet stitch: Corner to Corner (or c2c) crochet! This stitch can be used to make any size square or rectangle, so the possibilities are endless. I started small with a pillow cover, but you can grow a Corner to Corner blanket into a big square or rectangle very quickly.

The best tutorial I have found is HERE on Craftsy. It has written instruction and pictures to match so it makes learning the stitch very simple and easy.

I used THIS 16″ pillow insert as my size base, and I worked the Corner to Corner pattern until it was approximately 17″ square. This allowed me to then wrap my two squares around the pillow form and single crochet the two squares together. I found this to be a little challenging because I was crocheting with a fluffy pillow in the middle, so you might choose to finish 3 sides, insert the pillow form, then finish up from there! I didn’t think of that until I was already finished with mine!

I completed it by doing 2 more rows of single crochet to create the pillow border.

I used some scrap yarn I had in my stash and a 5.75mm (J) hook. Each side has a different stripe pattern, but I used the same colors on both sides. This way I can switch it up a bit if I want to feature a different color or move it to a new place in the house to match the decor there! You can make these in solid colors, with repeating stripes, or with a totally random color choice all your own!

I’d love to see your Corner to Corner projects! Join the Couch Surfer Crocheters Facebook group and share there, or find me on Instagram!

May the Fourth Be With You!

Happy Star Wars Day!

My weather app just told me that in 30 years, it has rained 26 times on this day where I live! But on May 4, 2014 the weather was sunny and perfect. That was the day I got married! The calendar says we have only been married for 3 years, but it feels like we have known each other all of our lives! My husband really is my best friend, my favorite person to do everything (and nothing) with, and he always supports me even when I think I’m losing my mind!

We got married on Star Wars day for a few reasons. One, we are big dorks and it seemed like a fun idea! Two, it is easy to remember our anniversary that way! A third bonus reason we’ve discovered is that it makes it easy to find at least one gift for the big day every year, because we always get something with a Star Wars theme, even if it is something small.

This year, I actually requested something specific. Star Wars crochet!

Making crochet dolls or characters is known as amigurumi. I have never tried it before, so I think it will be a fun challenge! And when I’m done I will have a couple of cute Star Wars dolls to keep and remember this special day! I will update as soon as I can with the finished dolls!
Have you ever made any crochet amigurumi patterns? Share with me on Instagram or join my Facebook group to share with an awesome group of like minded fiber artists!

I’d also love to see ANY Star Wars themed projects you have done! My friends are also big Star Wars fans, and I’d love some inspiration for things I could make for them! For now, I’m off to spend the day with my hubby!

Crochet Quick – Keychains

By | Crochet Pattern, Crochet Quick | No Comments

Happy Monday to you all! I hope May is starting off beautifully for all of you!

If you are participating in the Crochet Along, Week 3 will be available next Monday, May 8th!

Today I wanted to share a couple of quick projects you can do: crochet keychains! Every year, a friend of mine does a backpack drive for the kids in our area. He is so selfless in his love for the children in this community, and for helping them get the necessary supplies they will need for the upcoming year. Not every family can afford the huge list of school supplies that are required, and this really goes a long way to help them!

I always like to help out however I can. This year I was inspired to make cute little crochet keychains to add to the backpacks. I figured that way each kid could “personalize” their bag a little bit, and it gave me a chance to try out a couple of new patterns.

I used Lily Sugar n’Cream cotton yarn in Hot Pink for these particular key chains (but any cotton yarn will work), and a 5mm (H) hook.

I wanted to make sure to choose a few designs that could work for girls and boys! I decided to do a granny square, a flower, and a star.

This Week's Coupon at Michaels.com

The best granny square tutorial I have found is HERE. It has written instruction with pictures included. Once I had completed two rounds of the granny square pattern, I fastened off my ends and then threaded the key chain loop through one of the ch 3 corners. My square measured approximately 3″ x 3″ when finished. You can find a pack of 100 of these key chain loops on Amazon for just $6.99!

I found the flower tutorial HERE. The first one I made matched my bag so perfectly that I decided to keep it for myself! Don’t worry, I’ll make another one to donate! I found the star tutorial HERE. Each one of these is such a fun quick project. I think I was able to finish each one in about 5 minutes!

We’re hoping to provide backpacks for around 200 children this year, so I definitely have quite a few of these to make! Lily Sugar n’Cream comes has an awesome variety of yarn, so I can make them in lots of different colors! I am still on the lookout for maybe one or two more options. If any of you have any cute keychain patterns, I’d love for you to share them!

If you haven’t heard about the Mixed Stitch Crochet Along, check it out HERE! Week 3 will be live next Monday, May 8th!
