Hello crocheters! I’m sorry for my extended absence on the blog! I caught that awful flu that was going around, and didn’t have the energy to do much of anything for about two weeks. Once I was up and at ’em again, I got started on a cross stitch project for a local fundraiser. It’s being run by the McKinney Center, a local art center here where I live in Tennessee. From their website: “The arts program is designed to inspire area residents through appreciation for and participation in the various forms of art and expression. The comprehensive arts program offers a variety of educational opportunities for learning, such as, drawing, painting, mosaics, theater, dance, and music.”
They are holding a fundraiser where local artists create a few pieces to donate. Then each ticket purchased (or any money donated otherwise) is put towards scholarships for kids to attend art classes! I am so passionate about this cause! I think it’s imperative for children to express their creativity, and to be given the opportunities to learn how to do that. Here’s the cross stitch piece I finished for the fundraiser:
I promise I’m not turning this blog into Couch Surfer Cross Stitchers! However, if there is enough interest from all of you, I would be happy to share cross stitch patterns on occasion. I just love using yarn and thread in different mediums to create!
What I really wanted to talk to you all about today is Corner 2 Corner crochet (C2C). I love the texture it creates, and all of the creative ways you can use this stitch to make things. Previously I had shared with all of you how I use up some of my yarn scraps by making C2C pillow covers. Today I want to share a basic C2C scarf with you. I think this is a good project to start on if you’ve never done C2C. I’ve used a self striping yarn here (Yarn Bee Sugarwheel in Green Tea Swirl), so there aren’t even any color changes or massive amounts to of ends to weave in when you are finished! My next dream project is to start on a C2C graphgan. If you’ve never seen one of these, this is an awesome example, as is this one. That second link leads to a Parks and Rec themed Crochet Along that I can’t wait to get started on!
Craftsy has the best tutorial for C2C that I’ve found online. They have step by step instructions (including photos) so you can make sure you are getting it right! They also have links right at the top of the page if you want to try out a different Corner 2 Corner project!
I used an I/9 (5.5mm) hook. I followed the C2C pattern until I had mostly even sections of each color in the striping sequence (approx 60 inches). I did 7 “boxes” across then did the descreases to make an even edge. Then I used the remainder of the yarn to make a matching hat using my Basic Beanie Pattern! I whip-stitched the two ends together to make an infinity scarf. This can be worn in one long loop, or twisted once to make a tighter scarf.
