Go Do Make!

Welcome to Week 3 of the Hip to be Square Crochet Along! If you are just joining us, you can find Week 1 HERE, and Week 2 HERE.
We will be doing one of the more intricate squares this week, so we will be making 4 squares.  I’ve decided to call this square the Shattered Circle Square because of the ring of double crochets look like pieces of the circle exploding outwards!

As a reminder, I’m using a size I/9 (5.5 mm) hook, and worsted weight size 4 yarn.

We will be making 4 of these squares. Because I tend to love symmetry in my projects I have decided to make all of the squares each week in the same color sequence. But I want you all to feel free to fully express your creativity however you want in this blanket! I shared the colors I chose in the announcement post if you’d like to follow along with me exactly. In my color palette, I have chosen to use Color D (Impeccable Yarn in Teal) as the last row of each square.

R1: (using Color E) Ch 5, sl st to beginning ch to form circle

R2: Ch 3, 15 dc in circle, sl st to 3rd ch of starting ch3

R3: (using Color B) Ch 4 (counts as dc and ch 1), *dc in space between stitches, ch 1, repeat from * around, sl st to 3rd ch of starting ch4

R4: Ch 3, dc in same st, * ch 1, sk 1, 2dc in ch sp, repeat from * around, sl st to 3rd ch of starting ch3

R6: (using Color B) Start in ch 5 sp: [Ch 3, 2dc, ch 3, 3dc], *3dc in each ch2 sp to corner, [3dc, ch 3, 3dc] in corner,  repeat from * around, sl st to 3rd ch in starting ch 3

R7: (using Color B) Start in corner: [Ch 3, 1 dc, ch 2, 2 dc] in corner, *dc in each st to corner, [2dc, ch 2, 2dc] in corner, repeat from *, sl st to 3rd ch of starting ch 3

R8: (using Color E) Start in corner: [ch 2, 2sc] in corner, *sc in each st to corner, 3sc in corner, repeat from * around, sl st to 2nd ch of starting ch 2

R9: (using Color D) Start in corner: [ch 3, 1dc, ch 2, 2dc] in corner, *dc in each st to corner, [2dc, ch 2, 2 dc] in corner, repeat from * around, sl st to 3rd ch of starting ch3,
