Striped Stars Scarf – Free Pattern

By December 5, 2017Crochet Pattern

Welcome back to Couch Surfer Crochet! It’s been awhile since I have shared a new pattern! Right now I am frantically working on Christmas presents, and I can’t share any of those with you yet because they are supposed to be a surprise!!

However, I can share with you a pattern I created all for myself! I call it the Striped Stars Scarf! This pattern uses alternating rows of dc, hdc, and the star stitch to create this beautiful look and texture!

Stitches:
hdc -half double crochet
dc – double crochet
star cluster (*stc) Ch 3. Draw up a loop in each of the following sps: 2nd and 3rd chs from hook, each of first 3 sc. Yo and draw through all 6 loops on hook – Beg stc made. Ch 1. *Draw up a loop in each of the following sps: Top of previous stc, under 2 vertical strands of last st of previous stc, in same st as last loop drawn up of previous stc , each of next 2 sc. Yo and draw through all 6 loops on hook – stc made.

If you are like me, sometimes it is easier to learn a new stitch by watching a video. Olivia over at Hopeful Honey has the best tutorial I have found!

For this scarf I used Red Heart Yarn in 4 different colors. They currently have sitewide Free Shipping on orders $30!!
I used :
Color A: Black
Color B: White
Color C: Petal Pink
Color D: Shocking Pink

I am using an I/9 5.5mm hook. Starting chain needs to be multiples of 6 for the desired width (don’t forget to add 3 to your starting ch for the first dc). I made mine with a starting chain of 147 (144 + 3). Pattern goes in rows: Color A, B, C, D, then repeat until desired width.

I know this pattern might seem complicated, but I found that once I got going on the star stitch that it was really fun to work on. And I absolutely love the shape and texture that it adds to the finished scarf! I finished mine off with fringe on both ends, but of course that is a personal preference. I know some people aren’t very keen on fringe, so it’s up to you!
