Go Do Make!

Stripey Scarf Pattern

Welcome back to Couch Surfer Crochet! Today I want to share a cute scarf pattern with you! One of my friends is getting ready to travel for awhile, and she’s going to be going to some cold places! I wanted to make her something cute and warm that she could take along on her trip! She loved the look of my Three Color Baby Blanket, so I decided to use that same pattern to make her a scarf!

This pattern is easier than it looks!! The stitch sequence is a cinch to learn, and then it works up fast! I think the end result looks really lovely. I used three colors here: Claret, Buff Fleck, and Shocking Pink. If you use three colors like I did, you don’t even have to cut the yarn at each end when you turn your work! I carried my yarn up each side as I went, since I knew I would be adding fringe at the ends that would cover those spaces.

If you’re not sue how to change colors for each row by finishing the last stitch of the previous row with the new color, here is the best video tutorial I have found for how to do this.

I used an I/9 (5.5 mm) hook, and the yarn I chose is standard worsted-weight yarn.

R1:
With Color A, ch 244. Sc in 2nd ch from hook, *ch 3, dc in same ch as previous st, skip 2 ch, sc in next ch. Repeat from * to end, turn. (40 ch-3 loops)
R2: With Color B, ch 3, sc in the next ch-3 loop, *ch 3, dc in the same ch-3 loop, sc in the next ch-3 loop. Repeat from * to end, finishing last repeat with a ch 2, dc in the last sc, turn. (39 ch-3 loops, 1 ch-2 loop)
R3: With Color C, ch 1, sc in first st, ch 3, dc in ch-2 loop, *[sc, ch 3, dc] in next loop. Repeat from * to end, finishing last repeat with a sc in the top of the turning ch, turn. (40 ch-3 loops)
R4: With color A, ch 3, sc in the next ch-3 loop, *ch 3, dc in the same ch-3 loop, sc in the next ch-3 loop. Repeat from * to end, finishing last repeat with a ch 2, dc in the last sc, turn. (39 ch-3 loops, 1 ch-2 loop)
R5-10: Repeat rows 2-4
R11: Still using color A, ch 2, *3sc in ch-3 loop, sc in next st, repeat from * to end of row, sc in last st, fasten off.

For fringe, cut lengths of yarn approx 12″ long. Fold in half then attach to end of scarf, being sure to cover your yarn if you carried up the sides. I matched my fringe pieces to each stripe color, but it would also look great mixing the three colors together for the fringe!

The finished scarf is approximately 60″ long, which is a very versatile length. You can wrap it in many different ways. I would love to see it in all kinds of color combinations! You could also skip the fringe and sew the strip together to make an infinity scarf!
