Go Do Make!

Hello! Welcome to Couch Surfer Crochet! We are now on Week 25 of the 2019 Block-A-Week Project! We will have 25 weeks in total (to make a 5×5 blanket). You can find the first few weeks here:

Block-A-Week 2019 – Squares
(all of the weeks are posted there)

The pattern for Week 25 will look like this when it’s finished!

This square is called the Southern Summertime square! I saw the name and knew it had to be the final square in this project!

The original design came out to about 11 inches using a 5.5mm hook, so I added 2 simple rounds at the end!

Whenever I use another designer’s square I will ALWAYS follow copyright rules and intellectual property requirements. This pattern is copyrighted to it’s original designer. I am using this project in part to try new things and introduce you all to new designers! I want to make sure everyone is properly credited and attributed for any work they have done!

I will share my step by step photos for this pattern, but I am not able to share each step of the pattern. Please click the link to see the pattern! The original pattern lists recommended color changes. However!! Feel free to change colors as few or as many times as you want!!

I’m using a size I/9 (5.5 mm) hook, and worsted weight size 4 yarn for every one of these squares to keep stitch sizing consistent. My squares don’t always look completely “square” at the end of each pattern. I intend to block them all at the end of this project before I sew them together!

The colors I used are:

Color 1: Impeccable Yarn in Bright Sky Blue
Color 2: Red Heart Super Saver in Pale Yellow
Color 3: Impeccable Yarn in Grape Punch
Color 4: Red Heart Jumbo in Pretty N’ Pink
Color 5: Red Heart Super Saver in Aruba Sea

After Round 1
After Round 2
After Round 3
After Round 4
After Round 5
After Round 6
After Round 7
After Round 8
After Round 9
After Round 10

The original square came out to about 11 inches. So I added two simple rows to get to a full 12 inch square!

After Round 11

Round 11: (starting in corner), Ch 5 (counts as dc + ch 2), dc in same sp, *sk 1 st, ch 1, dc in next st, repeat from * to corner, [dc, ch 2, dc in corner], repeat from * around, fasten off

After Round 12

Round 12: (starting in corner), ch 1 (counts as sc), 2 sc in same st, *sc in each st and ch sp to corner, [3 sc] in corner, repeat from * around, fasten off

And there you have the end of our final square in this project! It has been so much fun to try out all these different designs!

We will be adding a border to each square to ensure that each one is the same “size” around, since some of these squares have a different number of stitches around the edge! Then we will join all the squares together and add a border. 🙂 Click here to see that tutorial!

Next week I will share the joining method for all of these squares! The following week we will be adding a border, and then this beautiful blanket will be complete!

Please, please, please feel free to share your work with me! I would love to see your progress and finished pieces. Half the joy of creating is sharing it! You can post your work here in the comments, on my Facebook page, or you can join the Couch Surfer Crocheters FB Group!
