I’m so happy to share another granny square pattern with you! This week we are back to working on more intricate squares, so we will be making 4 squares. When I decided to start this I looked for inspiration all around me. I named this blog Couch Surfer Crochet because I am always watching TV or movies while I crochet. It’s a great way to relax! This week’s square was inspired by my love of the TV show LOST! One of the recurring images in the show is the Dharma Initiative logo. It looks like this:

This week we are taking it back to the old school! We will be making the traditional granny square. Of course I can’t take credit for this pattern! You can search online and find a hundred different variations of this basic square.

I have given you all a step by step tutorial for this basic square. Here we will be making 6 “rounds” with the granny square pattern, with one round of double crochet around the edges. We will be making 8 squares this week!

If you haven’t joined us in the Couch Surfer Crocheters Facebook group then you might have missed the photo I shared with all my squares laid out ready to join. Well…here it is!

Hip to be Square CAL – Week 3

shattered circle granny square crochet

Welcome to Week 3 of the Hip to be Square Crochet Along! If you are just joining us, you can find Week 1 HERE, and Week 2 HERE.
We will be doing one of the more intricate squares this week, so we will be making 4 squares.  I’ve decided to call this square the Shattered Circle Square because of the ring of double crochets look like pieces of the circle exploding outwards!

As a reminder, I’m using a size I/9 (5.5 mm) hook, and worsted weight size 4 yarn.

We will be making 4 of these squares. Because I tend to love symmetry in my projects I have decided to make all of the squares each week in the same color sequence. But I want you all to feel free to fully express your creativity however you want in this blanket! I shared the colors I chose in the announcement post if you’d like to follow along with me exactly. In my color palette, I have chosen to use Color D (Impeccable Yarn in Teal) as the last row of each square.

Hip to be Square CAL – Week 2

Welcome back to the Hip to be Square Crochet Along! Last week we did 4 squares of the adapted Treble Starburst Square. This week we will be making 8 squares! This pattern is much simpler. There are no color changes in this square (except the final row if you are following the same color sequencing as I am). If you don’t think making a bunch of squares is for you, check out the Mixed Stitch Blanket CAL. It’s done in rows with lots of stripes!

I’ve decided to call this square the Solid Spaces Square. I like how every other row kind of look like stepping stones. It’s a little more textured than a traditional granny square, but the pattern is easy to repeat once you get the hang of it!

Hip to be Square CAL – Week 1

Hello and welcome to the first Week of the Hip to be Square Crochet Along! I am so excited to share this project with all of you. I hope you enjoy making this blanket!

Not too long ago I shared the pattern for a crocheted square I had created. I called it the Treble Starburst Square because of the shape in the center. I knew I wanted to create something using that square but at the time could not decide what in the world that might be. I set it aside for a little while so I could finish a few customer orders, and one day the idea came to me! I knew it would be a great accent in a blanket made with a few different types of squares.

Square Crochet Along – Details

Hello again!

I have had a few questions regarding the upcoming Hip to be Square Crochet Along. I wanted to write up a quick post to further explain the details of how this will work!

This blanket will be made of 36 squares in total, in a 6×6 grid. I ran a poll in the Couch Surfer Crocheters Facebook group to determine how to share the squares each week. I didn’t know if you all would rather grow your blankets row by row (doing a few different types of squares each week), or if you’d want to do all of one type of square at the same time. The vast majority of you voted to do all of ONE type of square for each week.

Hip to be Square Crochet Along!

Hello! Welcome back to Couch Surfer Crochet! Recently I shared with you my first ever Crochet Along project: The Mixed Stitch Blanket CAL! It was so much fun to work on! I really loved testing my creativity and seeing how my idea could be interpreted in so many different ways! I’ve had quite a few people ask me when will I be doing another Crochet Along? Well, have I got good news for you! I’m starting a new Crochet Along! This one will be called the “Hip to be Square” CAL!

Awhile back I had shared a new square pattern I created called the “Treble Starburst Square.” This square was the beginning inspiration for this new project! As I’m sure you could guess by the name, this blanket Crochet Along will be made using a whole bunch of different granny squares. The project will run for a total of eight weeks.

Three Color Baby Blanket Pattern

Oh my gosh you guys, I am so excited! I just found out one of my oldest friends is expecting her second baby! She already has a gorgeous little girl that I love so much! This time she is having a boy! When she had her daughter I made a blanket for her crib, so I knew I wanted to do the same thing for her son!

Her husband is in the military, so I wanted to choose colors that tied into that. I thought tan, navy, and green would look very nice together. I chose to use Soft Taupe, Soft Navy, and Forest.
