Welcome to Couch Surfer Crochet! Today I want to tell you all about the Changing Chevrons Crochet Along!
Last year I create, wrote, and published my first Crochet Along! I called it the Mixed Stitch Blanket CAL, and I had such a blast working on it! I really enjoy a challenge, and I always like to push myself with crochet to learn new things.
Working on that CAL made me brave enough later in the year to create my second CAL, the Hip to be Square CAL. It brought a new set of challenges and taught me a lot about blanket making. I absolutely loved seeing each of your creations as you made those patterns your own!
When I was ready to start working on a new Crochet Along, I kept being drawn to chevron style projects. But I quickly realized it would be a pretty boring Crochet Along if all you ever did was change colors every few rows. I wanted something more interesting, something that would also help me (and you!) learn new stitches along the way. I searched far and wide, and I couldn’t find ANY other chevron CALs. I knew that I could really make something fun with the idea!
I went straight to my Crochet Stitch Dictionary. I picked out a few stitches that I liked, worked with the math to ensure those stitches would work with a chevron pattern, and then I went to work! I LOVE the final product. It is visually interesting, and it has a wonderful texture.
This Crochet Along will start on Monday, March 26th. Every two weeks (every other Monday), I will post 10 – 15 rows of the pattern, including all stitches and variations required. I’m posting every two weeks to give you plenty of time to learn the new stitches and complete all of the rows for that section.
Week 1: March 26
Week 2: April 9
Week 3: April 23
Week 4: May 7
Week 5: May 21
Week 6: June 4
Week 7: June 18
Week 8: July 2
For this project I chose to use 4 colors. This project was inspired by a friend who is currently planning and creating her nursery. She picked out her bedding set and wanted me to make a throw blanket to match. She chose this set:
Aren’t those colors amazing?!?! I couldn’t wait to get my hands on some matching yarn!
I used:
Impeccable Big! Yarn by Loops & Threads in Aqua (1 ball – 858 yds)
Impeccable Big! Yarn by Loops & Threads in Coral (1 ball – 858 yds)
Loops & Threads Impeccable Yarn in Forest (2 balls – 277 yds each)
Bernat Baby Sport Big Ball Ombre Yarn in Chiffon Print (1 ball – 893 yds)
I made this blanket throw sized (approx 48″x56″). You may want to make your blanket smaller or larger. In the Week 1 post I will include a chart to explain how many chains to start with to ensure your chevrons come out perfectly!
I chose to use 4 colors for this blanket, but I want you to use as many (or as few) as you would prefer! You could even do this all in a solid color for a beautifully textured finished piece. Go wild creatively! I would love to see your progress and finished pieces. Half the joy of creating is sharing it!
