Welcome to Week 3 of the Hip to be Square Crochet Along!

WEEK 3

This week we are taking it back to the old school! We will be making the traditional granny square. Of course I can’t take credit for this pattern! You can search online and find a hundred different variations of this basic square.

I have given you all a step by step tutorial for this basic square. Here we will be making 6 “rounds” with the granny square pattern, with one round of double crochet around the edges. We will be making 8 squares this week!

If you haven’t joined us in the Couch Surfer Crocheters Facebook group then you might have missed the photo I shared with all my squares laid out ready to join. Well…here it is!

Hopefully seeing it laid out like this will help you decide which of your colors you would like to use to make your basic grannies! Sorry for the sad quality of the photo. All I had handy at the time was an old camera and I couldn’t quite figure out the settings! At least this will give you a feeling for the finished blanket!

For this group of 8 squares I chose to use Color B (Red Heart SS in Light Sage) for the main color, and Color (Impeccable Yarn in Teal)for the final round. I’m using a I/9 (5.5mm) hook.

I found these simple squares to be very relaxing to work on. I’ve been binge watching Doctor Who lately and it was a fast and quick project to work on! Tag me on Instagram if you want to share your progress!

I would like to create a photo gallery for the blog to share all of your finished squares. I think it would be awesome to see these squares in so many different color combinations! If you would like to feature your squares in the photo gallery, email them to me at amber@l0u.418.myftpupload.com. I promise I won’t share any personal info, just a tag that says “created by:” with your first name only.

If you want to try a different style of CAL, check out the Mixed Stitch Blanket CAL. It’s made in rows with lots of colorful stripes!
Happy crocheting!

Update: Now that this Crochet Along is complete, the FULL pattern is available as an AD FREE PDF through Ravelry.
