Changing Chevrons CAL Week 1

Changing Chevrons CAL Week 1

Welcome to Week 1 of the Changing Chevrons Crochet Along! If you missed the intro post, let me catch you up on how all this will work! Every two weeks (every other Monday), I will post 10 – 15 rows of the pattern, including all stitches and variations required. I’m posting every two weeks to give you plenty of time to learn the new stitches and complete all of the rows for that section.

Week 1: March 26
Week 2: April 9
Week 3: April 23
Week 4: May 7
Week 5: May 21
Week 6: June 4
Week 7: June 18
Week 8: July 2

This blanket pattern uses different stitches done in chevron style. This gives the finished piece a unique look and wonderful texture. Since there will be multiple stitches used throughout, I have also created a Special Stitches Page which has the basic instructions for each chevron stitch variation.

Changing Chevrons Crochet Along Intro

Welcome to Couch Surfer Crochet! Today I want to tell you all about the Changing Chevrons Crochet Along!

Last year I create, wrote, and published my first Crochet Along! I called it the Mixed Stitch Blanket CAL, and I had such a blast working on it! I really enjoy a challenge, and I always like to push myself with crochet to learn new things.

Working on that CAL made me brave enough later in the year to create my second CAL, the Hip to be Square CAL. It brought a new set of challenges and taught me a lot about blanket making. I absolutely loved seeing each of your creations as you made those patterns your own!

These squares have been so much fun to create and I truly love the finished blanket. This week I will teach you how to add a border to this blanket. Hip to be Square CAL – Week 6

OMG…You guys!!! We are now on the last week of squares! We are going back to basics again this week. We will be making 8 squares of the basic granny square pattern just like we did in Week 4, but we are going to be using a different color for the main block to create the pattern at the end when we join. Here’s how the squares look before the join so you can see in the pattern why we are doing two weeks of the same type of square!

I’m so happy to share another granny square pattern with you! This week we are back to working on more intricate squares, so we will be making 4 squares. When I decided to start this I looked for inspiration all around me. I named this blog Couch Surfer Crochet because I am always watching TV or movies while I crochet. It’s a great way to relax! This week’s square was inspired by my love of the TV show LOST! One of the recurring images in the show is the Dharma Initiative logo. It looks like this:

Hip to be Square CAL – Week 1

Hello and welcome to the first Week of the Hip to be Square Crochet Along! I am so excited to share this project with all of you. I hope you enjoy making this blanket!

Not too long ago I shared the pattern for a crocheted square I had created. I called it the Treble Starburst Square because of the shape in the center. I knew I wanted to create something using that square but at the time could not decide what in the world that might be. I set it aside for a little while so I could finish a few customer orders, and one day the idea came to me! I knew it would be a great accent in a blanket made with a few different types of squares.

Square Crochet Along – Details

Hello again!

I have had a few questions regarding the upcoming Hip to be Square Crochet Along. I wanted to write up a quick post to further explain the details of how this will work!

This blanket will be made of 36 squares in total, in a 6×6 grid. I ran a poll in the Couch Surfer Crocheters Facebook group to determine how to share the squares each week. I didn’t know if you all would rather grow your blankets row by row (doing a few different types of squares each week), or if you’d want to do all of one type of square at the same time. The vast majority of you voted to do all of ONE type of square for each week.

Hip to be Square Crochet Along!

Hello! Welcome back to Couch Surfer Crochet! Recently I shared with you my first ever Crochet Along project: The Mixed Stitch Blanket CAL! It was so much fun to work on! I really loved testing my creativity and seeing how my idea could be interpreted in so many different ways! I’ve had quite a few people ask me when will I be doing another Crochet Along? Well, have I got good news for you! I’m starting a new Crochet Along! This one will be called the “Hip to be Square” CAL!

Awhile back I had shared a new square pattern I created called the “Treble Starburst Square.” This square was the beginning inspiration for this new project! As I’m sure you could guess by the name, this blanket Crochet Along will be made using a whole bunch of different granny squares. The project will run for a total of eight weeks.
