These squares have been so much fun to create and I truly love the finished blanket. This week I will teach you how to add a border to this blanket. I’ll also show you a trick that I use to make finishing a blanket go much quicker!

The photos you have shared in the Facebook group are absolutely stunning! You all have inspired me so much with your fabulous work and your awesome color choices! Maybe you will be inspired to try this pattern again with a different set of colors. I think I might do just that!

Stash Buster Granny CAL – Week 4

Welcome to Couch Surfer Crochet! We are now on Week 4 of the Stash Buster Granny Square Crochet Along!

If you are just now joining us, check out the INTRO POST.

This blanket pattern is designed to be a stash buster! Each week we will be creating a “SET” number of squares, but it is totally creatively open! Colors are all up to YOU! Each week the pattern is the basic granny square, the unique look comes from when we do color changes on each square.

If you’ve never heard the term “stash buster” before, it’s when you have LOTS and LOTS of bits of yarn with no idea what to do with them! I designed this pattern with the intention that it would be very colorful and very random. I didn’t want any two squares to look alike. Of course, if you want to make each week of squares exactly the same, that’s totally up to you! I think that would be a stunning finished piece if that’s what you choose to do!

Stash Buster Granny CAL Intro

Hello and welcome to Couch Surfer Crochet!

I’m ready to introduce my newest Crochet Along: The Stash Buster Granny CAL!

I’ve been working like crazy to get this project finished so I can share with all of you! I ran a poll in the Couch Surfer Crocheters FB Group to see if people preferred a shorter (and smaller) project that lasts 4 weeks, or a full size blanket that will last 6 weeks. The majority picked the 6 week full blanket option. I’ve now got the plan in place and am ready to introduce this new Crochet Along to the world!

This CAL will start on October 8th and run through November 12th. I wanted to be able to do the entire project start to finish before the holiday season really sets in on us and we run out of time for side projects! Weeks 1 – 4 we will be creating a certain number of squares. Week 5 will teach you how to join them all together. And Week 6 will teach you how to add a border to give it a nice finish!

October 8:       Week 1 – 9 squares
October 15:      Week 2 – 12 squares
October 22:     Week 3 – 12 squares
October 29:     Week 4 – 16 squares
November 5:   Week 5 – JOINING
November 12: Week 6 – BORDER

What you will need:Yarn: Size 4 (medium weight) yarn. I used mostly Red Heart and Impeccable yarns since most of my stash comes from Michaels stores!
***since I used yarn from my stash I don’t have an exact amount needed, but I know you will need at least 400 yards of one solid color to do the joining and border!

Hook: Size I/9 5.5mm

Hip to be Square CAL – Week 2

Welcome back to the Hip to be Square Crochet Along! Last week we did 4 squares of the adapted Treble Starburst Square. This week we will be making 8 squares! This pattern is much simpler. There are no color changes in this square (except the final row if you are following the same color sequencing as I am). If you don’t think making a bunch of squares is for you, check out the Mixed Stitch Blanket CAL. It’s done in rows with lots of stripes!

I’ve decided to call this square the Solid Spaces Square. I like how every other row kind of look like stepping stones. It’s a little more textured than a traditional granny square, but the pattern is easy to repeat once you get the hang of it!

Hip to be Square Crochet Along!

Hello! Welcome back to Couch Surfer Crochet! Recently I shared with you my first ever Crochet Along project: The Mixed Stitch Blanket CAL! It was so much fun to work on! I really loved testing my creativity and seeing how my idea could be interpreted in so many different ways! I’ve had quite a few people ask me when will I be doing another Crochet Along? Well, have I got good news for you! I’m starting a new Crochet Along! This one will be called the “Hip to be Square” CAL!

Awhile back I had shared a new square pattern I created called the “Treble Starburst Square.” This square was the beginning inspiration for this new project! As I’m sure you could guess by the name, this blanket Crochet Along will be made using a whole bunch of different granny squares. The project will run for a total of eight weeks.
