Welcome to Couch Surfer Crochet! The world might be a bit crazy right now, but I have found that being able to crochet (and do any kind of crafts, really) helps me feel productive. Most of the shops are closed, and I’m home a lot more than I am used to, so I’m crocheting quite … Read more

If you’ve enjoyed this project, please share with all of your crafty friends! I’ve had a few people ask about making their blanket longer at the end. Changing Chevrons CAL – Week 5

Hello! Welcome back to Couch Surfer Crochet! We are now on Week 5 of the Changing Chevrons Crochet Along! I hope you all are enjoying this project as much as I am!

Before we get into the pattern today, I want to take a minute to say a sincere thank you to the members of the Couch Surfer Crocheters Facebook Group. Making a Chevron pattern has been much more challenging than anything I’ve done so far, and you have all been amazing during this process. I have posted a few mistakes in the pattern the last couple of weeks, and you all have been so nice and helpful while I get everything sorted! Thank you from the bottom of my heart. This little website is my passion project, and I am so happy to share with all of you. Thank you for patience as we all figure this out together!

NOW, on to the fun stuff!

This week’s section is from the pink rows at the bottom to the pink rows at the top!

(Basic Beanie)

Today I want to share another pattern with you! It’s that time of year again! Time to fill up a couple of bags with lots of lots of handmade hats for the local clothing drives! Previously I shared with you all the hats that I donated to the homeless clothing drive last year. I got really creative last year and tried out all sorts of different patterns. It was a lot of fun working on those! I used the Slouchy Side Saddle Hat Pattern, The Crochet Beret for a few, and I made lots of hats using the Criss Cross Hat Pattern. That Criss Cross stitch helps add a layer of warmth!

I’m so happy to share another granny square pattern with you! This week we are back to working on more intricate squares, so we will be making 4 squares. When I decided to start this I looked for inspiration all around me. I named this blog Couch Surfer Crochet because I am always watching TV or movies while I crochet. It’s a great way to relax! This week’s square was inspired by my love of the TV show LOST! One of the recurring images in the show is the Dharma Initiative logo. It looks like this:

Hip to be Square CAL – Week 3

shattered circle granny square crochet

Welcome to Week 3 of the Hip to be Square Crochet Along! If you are just joining us, you can find Week 1 HERE, and Week 2 HERE.
We will be doing one of the more intricate squares this week, so we will be making 4 squares.  I’ve decided to call this square the Shattered Circle Square because of the ring of double crochets look like pieces of the circle exploding outwards!

As a reminder, I’m using a size I/9 (5.5 mm) hook, and worsted weight size 4 yarn.

We will be making 4 of these squares. Because I tend to love symmetry in my projects I have decided to make all of the squares each week in the same color sequence. But I want you all to feel free to fully express your creativity however you want in this blanket! I shared the colors I chose in the announcement post if you’d like to follow along with me exactly. In my color palette, I have chosen to use Color D (Impeccable Yarn in Teal) as the last row of each square.

Hip to be Square CAL – Week 1

Hello and welcome to the first Week of the Hip to be Square Crochet Along! I am so excited to share this project with all of you. I hope you enjoy making this blanket!

Not too long ago I shared the pattern for a crocheted square I had created. I called it the Treble Starburst Square because of the shape in the center. I knew I wanted to create something using that square but at the time could not decide what in the world that might be. I set it aside for a little while so I could finish a few customer orders, and one day the idea came to me! I knew it would be a great accent in a blanket made with a few different types of squares.
